Wunder Gym Extended Practice Program
The Wunder Gym continues to deliver its arts and creative program to Local Governments and institutions.
In 2023, Wunder Gym developed a new program format to deliver to community creatives based in the Western Regions, and in partnership with Wyndham City Arts and Cultural Development Team. Launched a community residency program, consisting of:
6 MENTORS, 18 CREATIVES, 1 EXHIBITION EVERY 2 WEEKS
THIS program is a unique opportunity to nuture participating artists and has strengthened them into proud, diverse, inclusive AND SUPPORTIVE artistic leaders who have started to establish future workshops and opportunities for others in their creative community.
The EXTENDED PRACTICE program is a unique opportunity for Wunder Gym alumni. All Creatives are local to the Wyndham area and have a tenacity to further develop their creative practice and expand previously developed artworks. EXTENDED PRACTICE offers alumni an opportunity to revisit a previous Wunder Gym mentor and provocation, build on work already created and exhibit in small groups.
Program Mentors include Catherine Bell, Tai Snaith, Hotham Street Ladies, Tilly Boleyn, Cameron Bishop and Daine Singer.

Artists use smell as a sculptural medium to extend on the concept of mortality and impermanence. As a highly nuanced sense, with an enormous capacity to trigger human emotions, they work to evoke memories and arouse individual and shared histories.
Mentored by Catherine Bell and featuring work by Jenny Rütsch, Elizabeth Anne van Herwaarden & Xiang Li
Sat, 25 Mar 2023 -Mon, 3 Apr
The allusive question, rarely answered honestly and asked to all artists- ‘What inspired this work?’ What was the starting point? An artist has the rare power to ascribe meaning and value to absolutely anything they choose; the art is in how convincing and captivating they are in the act of communicating and celebrating it.
Mentored by Tai Snaith and featuring work by Will Francis, Moreen Wellington Lyons & Melanie Cochrane
Tue, 4 Apr 2023 -Wed, 19 Apr
Delicious and sweet. Provocative. Disgusting subject matter. Courting controversy. Feminism in sugar. Craft used in contemporary discourse. Abject and absurd.
Mentored by The Hotham Street Ladies and featuring work by Connor Ovenden-Shaw, Christine Lining Bulandus & Larissa Taylor
Fri, 21 Apr 2023 -Thu, 4 May
Humans are not alone in our collective social behaviour. From swarms of social insects, murmurations of birds, to molecular movements, swarming behaviour underlies nearly everything. We are also seeing swarm algorithms driving our future lives, in which we will see swarms of drones and nanorobots helping (or hindering) the very essence of what it means to be human.
Mentored by Tilly Boleyn and featuring work by Carol Rowlands, Maria Nardo & Simpson Myers
Sat, 6 May 2023 -Wed, 17
‘A lump of volcanic rock in the middle of nowhere. It is worth wondering why we are so eager to construct hierarchies of place, where certain suburbs are reduced to their worst features at the expense of the people who live there. Communities are, after all, inherently multidimensional.’
Fatima Measham, No Shit
Mentored by Cameron Bishop and featuring the work of Catherine Mackay, Nandita Nadkarni and Rukz One
Sat, 20 May 2023 -Wed, 31
"The hands may almost be said to speak. Do we not use them to demand, promise, summon, dismiss, threaten, supplicate, express aversion or fear, question or deny? Do we not use them to indicate joy, sorrow, hesitation, confession, penitence, measure, quantity, number, and time? Have they not the power to excite and prohibit, to express approval, wonder, shame?” Quintilia
Mentored by Daine Singer and featuring the work of Meredith Ann Jones, Eva Klusacek &Melissa Lazaridis
Sat, 3 Jun 2023 -Wed, 14 Jun
