Welcome to the Wunder Gym.

Part gallery. Part education. All community.

The Wunder Gym programs are designed to fundamentally force participants to exercise their curiosity and creativity - which requires a risk, a sacrifice, a commitment.

It pushes participants outside their comfort zone and that’s where the creative magic happens.

Participants wrestle with inner critics, explore innate creative abilities and become more open minded through the programs unique delivery.

The process of creating and the vulnerable act of sharing our individual humanness, challenges participant perceptions and influence others.

The Wunder Gym’s programs, partnering with local government arts and cultural teams and institutions, has consistently empowered and built confident creative leaders.

Evidence supports the Wunder Gym’s effectiveness in building curiosity, generating creative confidence and uniting creative community’s with over 20+ programs and 150+ participants.

“The programming expense is not insignificant, but in the case of Wyndham City, it has been invaluable in terms of its return on artist and community development.

We’ve seen increased participation across the board, collaborations between community members, individual practice development and external opportunities for creatives.

All of which would not have happened without Wunder Gym.”

Trish Carlon, Arts Development Officer, Arts, Cultural & Events Wyndham City Council.

Stretch, strengthen and satisfy your creative curiosity at the Wunder Gym. Each program includes, but is not limited to, a project brief, a Q&A event, a coaching session with an established artist mentor and an external exhibition, publication or public art outcome, celebrating and supporting creative communities.

Partnering with LGAs and institutions to support community creatives include:

  • Generate an artwork to nurture creative confidence

  • Meet creative peers and establish stronger bonds with community artists across municipalities

  • Meet established artists as mentor and have the opportunity to grow from 1on1 coaching experience

  • Have artwork included in group exhibition

  • Have artwork documented for personal use and promotional use

  • Establish an artwork which can be used as ‘proof of concept’ for future LGA grant and award applications

  • Individuals benefit larger cross-community shared knowledge and skills (Creative are notorious in doing workshops instead of exploring and generating their own artwork)

  • Build creative confidence to explore future community collective activities and exhibitions of their own

  • Participants benefit from peers promoting the exhibition and events, supporting each other

  • Ongoing support community online via Wunder Gym hosted Slack Community

  • Reach all ages, younger audiences through to senior audiences without grades, essays or exorbitant tuition fees.

Benefits for LGAs include:

  • Facilitate community in exhibiting opportunities in and outside of their community

  • Expanding Community reach with program partners

I am enough of the artist to draw freely upon my imagination. Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.
